Book 10: The Longshoreman of the Apocalypse — Prologue: Drydock

Transcript

Narrator: Aboard the mercenary warship Touch-And-Go.
Ship-bot: Well?
Captain Tagon: It looks pretty good. You're sure everything is up to spec?
Ship-bot: Absolutely. Granted, after those debacles with the water and the explosives we were concerned that the project would take longer than we bid, but it turned out to be pretty straightforward.
Ship-bot: We contacted the team thad did the previous refit, Daysun-Tingo. They were extremely helpful.
Captain Tagon: Did they tell you about the casualties they suffered on board this ship?
Ship-bot: Oh yes. You had them quite terrorized. But don't let it go to your head. Here on the Morokweng we have much harsher masters.
Thurl: There he is. . . This won't take a minute.
Thurl: Captain, the little lady here wants an officer slot. Says she "does robots."
Ship-bot: Mother of chrome. . . It's VENTURA.
Ship-bot: Captain, there may be one or two loose ends we still need to tie off.
Ship-bot: I'll get right on 'em
Captain Tagon: Welcome aboard, Ensign Ventura.
