Book 10: The Longshoreman of the Apocalypse — Part II: Enter the Longshoreman

Transcript

Frank Hannibal: Comments are pouring in live from our viewers. Spitzer Gredmach from Northwaist says "This Sergeant Schlock is a psychopathic criminal and should be treated like one."
Schlock: Okay, bath-time is over.
Ennesby: It's an empty threat, Schlock. Don't let him get to you.
Ennesby: Besides, around here they treat psychopathic criminals pretty well. Free room and board, unlimited hypernet privileges, and vocational training as lawyers.
Schlock: I didn't say those things that way. I didn't talk to that Frank Hannibal anchorman at all. But they chopped up my words and fixed the pictures so well I'm starting to feel like that's actually how it happened.
Schlock: Where's Massey? He's in command right now. I need permission.
Ennesby: He's working with Tag on the intel problem. He probably needs to not be bothered.
Schlock: I'm not going to bother him. I'm going to make him order me to take out that newsman.
Ennesby: This doesn't sound like you, Sergeant.
Schlock: It doesn't? The news said I'm a sociopath.
Ennesby: Okay, but sociopaths don't need orders to be sociopathic.
Schlock: Oh, good. That means I can skip talking to Massey.
Ennesby: I'm trying to talk you down off the ledge here, Schlock.
Schlock: How's that going for you?
Massey: Hello, Sergeant. Tag told me you were on the warpath. You're supposed to be in your bathtub dreaming of poverty.
Schlock: But Frank Hannibal needs to die.
Massey: No, he needs to be left alone. We can't fix any of this with violence.
Schlock: You're just afraid to use enough of it.
Massey: That's probably true.
