Book 16: Big, Dumb Objects — Part IV

Transcript

NARRATOR: This Esspererin colony-tree is perched forty-one kilometers above the nearest clump of Uli-Oa framework.

The crown is roughly the same size as Chomolungma on Earth, giving the word "tree" a real workout.

The trunk and taproots descend one hundred and sixteen kilometers into the dark tangle of Uli-Oa.

It's small, by Esspererin standards. In the microgravity of the Pereri ring it would be several times this size.

It is, however, big enough to feed the entire Beskin-Sashik clan, thanks to its access to resources unavailable in the Pereri ring...

There is an ocean down here, and it is deep enough to give genuine performance anxiety to the word "abyss."
