CONduit XV, Among Other Things
entry,

This Friday through Sunday I'll be at CONduit XV in downtown Salt Lake City at the Radisson on215 W. South Temple.

My schedule, and a plea for you to come and buy original artwork from me, can be found further down...

BUT FIRST, I need to tell you about three things unrelated to CONduit:

  1. Some good friends of mine, fellow webcartoonists, launched a new webcomic hub called Blank Label. Each and every one of the comics these guys produce is top-notch. These guys epitomize the word "professional" in their work, their work ethic, and their overall attitude. I coached them a little bit on hosting and working with Google, but what they've done far outstrips my own accomplishments as an independent. If you're not reading at least one Blank Label Comic already, it can only be because you haven't heard of them yet.
  2. Speaking of Google, a Schlocker has coded a Firefox plugin that monitors your Adsense account automatically. You can get it, and many other nifty little tools at code.mincus.com, or from Mozilla Update. I've been using this extension for several weeks now, and I love it.
  3. Speaking of Adsense, I need to post an update on how Adsense revenue has been working: short answer: the blush is off the rose. I've left things alone for a month, and it's apparent that websites depending on Adsense for revenue will need regular tweaking in order to keep earnings up. I expected as much. Adsense still beats my Keen pay by a factor of two, but I'm going to have to be more hands-on to get back up to the factor of ten I saw in early April.

And now, my Conduit schedule...

FRIDAY, May 27th

8:00am-10:00am -- Art Show: -- I'll be hanging stuff in the art show and auction. It'll be up all weekend. Support your local schlock mercenary, and buy originals!

2:00pm-3:00pm -- SF Pictionary in Wasatch 2: I have no idea how this works. I expect that we're going to find out that I'm a much funnier artist than I am a "good" artist, though.

3:30pm-4:00pm -- The Schlock Mercenary Session in Juniper: I'll only have about half an hour to talk about Schlock-specific stuff. Come armed with tough questions! Handle Schlock originals! Beg for spoilers!

SATURDAY, May 28th

12:00pm-1:00pm -- Webcomics: Survey and Advice in Juniper: What would a convention be without a panel on Webcomics? And just think, you can get ADVICE from me and from several other webtoonists (My advice: don't start a webcomic. It will consume your soul.)

SUNDAY, May 29th

10:00am-11:00am -- Extreme Perspective and Other Tools in Wasatch 1: Charles Vess and Matthew Yarro will provide useful instruction for artists. I'll sit on the panel and crack jokes about their "vanishing points," since I doubt I'll have anything useful to contribute.

4:00pm-5:00pm -- Inking Comics in Cedar: Okashichan, Newton Ewell, and I will discuss and demonstrate various inking techniques. I expect to get totally pwn3d.

I'll have lots and lots of free time at this convention, and I'll have my art stuff with me pretty much everywhere I go. If you want a free sketch, or if you just want to hang out, that's cool. If you want to commission some marker-art, I'm sure we can work something out.

I'll post schedule updates to my Live Journal, and may even be able to post them from the floor of the 'con. We'll see about that.

2005 Convention and Appearance Schedule

May 27-29: CONduit XV, Salt Lake City, UT
July 13-17: Comic-Con 2005, San Diego, CA. (tentative... this one's pricey)
September 30-Oct 2: Linucon 2.0, Austin, TX. (tentative)
October 8-9: Revoluticon, Asheville, NC

Are you interested in having me come to your city? Your convention? Your HOUSE? Pay my way and pay my stay, and we can make it happen. The BEST way is to convince the convention organizers that I'm worthy of "GoH" status, but there are alternatives. Email me if you've got an event in mind.
