Convention Report: Emerald City Comic-Con – Vader vs Tagon
Posted April 3rd, 2007 by Howard Tayler
I thought you’d like to see the picture I drew. Marc Semenchuk made a fantastic Lord Vader (he’s 6′6″ and can do a decent James Earl Jones imitation), and Garrison Titan managed to raise over $1500 for a Seattle area children’s charity just by taking pictures of themselves. (I guess Vader feels guilty for all those jedi kids he offed in Episode III…)

Oh, and for the record, commissions like this one will usually run you about $40 if you can connect with me at a convention.

It was a pleasure. And I love the picture. The weekend was long, hot, and my legs are sore! (I need to ’speak’ with the imperial techs about fixing my limbs)
I’m going to have to commission more in the future along the same theme!

I was very pleased to meet you, Howard, and even more so to see the fantastic job you did on the picture. (And for so cheap, too! Those ‘mind tricks’ work well!)
I’m going to, over time, hit Howard up for more of ‘Tagon’s Toughs’ vs ‘Star Wars’. My wife will kill me!

Howard – I’ve got to commend you on your attention to detail.
It’s not usually obvious when looking at the comic in a browser – but Tom scanned the autographed Hellevator strip for me and .. wow. Up close it’s obvious you put a lot of work into your art.

Sorry about the double-double post-post Lord Vader. It’s possible my spam filter mistook you for someone evil…

That art is awesome. Love the expression on Tagon.

I never realized Vader was left-handed. That’s a fantastic picture.

Tagon just needs a thought-bubble saying “I wish I was far, far away…”

Ubiqtorate: I don’t think he IS left-handed. Still, based on what we saw Anakin do at the end of SW:ATC, he’s probably ambidextrous (or at least “Dread Pirate Roberts” good with his off-hand).

I often hold my lightsaber in my left hand if I need my right for something.
Like choking someone who annoyed me…

And then Lord Vader has a shoulder eplet (Spelling) Filled with antimatter goodness thrown at his face. Win goes to Tagon if he can find cover. Since a man with no legs or legs, sure sure he has bionic replacements, but not like the real thing; and thats on a breathing machine is not going to run fast enough.
And to GURPS fans both Gravity weapons (for the first time) and Plasma weapons (Classic goodness made fresh) made it into this new edition of Ultra-Tech. Go Howard!
