About that coloring book…

Posted June 12th, 2007 by Howard Tayler

Schlock Mercenary coloring bookWhat’s that? You can’t wait to see the coloring book that Strohl Munitions will put out?

Okay, fine. Here’s the cover.

The book is 22 pages long, and is quite silly. Aside from the simple, seditious, non-canonical story, it includes a maze, a matching game, and a word-search suitable for grown-ups with twisted minds. All pages are 8.5″ x 11″ at 600dpi resolution — these lines are crisp, baby. And they can be yours for a Paypal donation of any size.

After donating, clicking on the “return to merchant” button should take you to a “thank you” page wherein lies the PDF in question for you to print out. If it doesn’t work, email me (howard.tayler on gmail) or Sandra (sandra.tayler at the same host) using the email address you used with PayPal, and we’ll hook you up.

Not to complain too much but the connect-the-dots page is missing the somewhat standard numbers to go with the dots.

  2. Howard Tayler Says:

Wait ’till you get to the Word Search, my friend…

  3. swj719 Says:

    Must…

    Buy…

    Swag…

  4. Corana Says:

    Sweet,

I would like to be able to buy a schlock t-shirt with
“The children of today are the Dsicerning consumers of millitary-grade weapons technology of tomorrow”

After all its the facts of life….

  5. Dev Dot Nul Says:

Kiddo’s going to absolutely freak tomorrow when he goes down to the printer to find what’s waiting for him.

  6. brasscannon Says:

Could not resist kicking in a little something in celebration of the anniversary. Kudos, sir!

  7. michaelbirks Says:

    Thanks Boss!

Shan’t recommend anyone taking it to school, though. Zero Tolerance and all those representations of guns…

“The children of today are the Dsicerning consumers of millitary-grade weapons technology of tomorrow” soulds like it could/should be a line from _The Seven Marketing Habits of Highly Effective Pirates_

    Michael.

  8. Hephaestus Says:

I second the T-Shirt idea. I’d get one.

  9. DarthParadox Says:

Awesome. I’m definitely acquiring one as soon as I can make sure I’m on the right computer to download it.

Have you had any experience with using Copics on printer paper? I know I’ll need something underneath for it to bleed onto, but other than that… I may want to get some thicker paper to print these on to.

Or maybe just get out my colored pencils.

  10. tarlen Says:

    Just got mine.

Despite the fact that I have the drawing ability of a three-legged hyena caught in a tornado, I’m going to have to print it out, and colour it, just to keep it with the rest of my dead-tree Schlock.

Thanks Howard, and I can’t wait for more books.

Talking about art, where’s the updates of the dragon you’re painting? I hope the real world isn’t getting in the way of your hobbies… unless it’s the real world with your family, that’s probably better than painting stuff. :-)

    Thanks for the reminder.

In 1982, our programming team was surprised to find a comic book on the desks we used in the Army base. Opening it, we were amused to find Betty Boobs explaining the fine art of cleaning your M16 (or something like that). And as we laughed at it, the sergeant who kept us civilians in order just sniffed and said that the reserve had been in last night - he wished they would learn to clean up their toys after themselves.

So the Strohl Munitions Plasma Cannon Safety Activity book is in a proud tradition for educating our troops.

    Keep up the good work!

  12. Don Gwinn Says:

    Stop! Just stop.

You had me at “seditious coloring book.”

    I love you, man.

  13. Howard Tayler Says:

Darth Paradox: Copics work GREAT on regular printer paper. They bleed through, yes, but the colors also look really smooth. Copics originally got their name from the japanese symbols pronounced “coh-pee,” which are a cognate for “copy.” They were used for coloring on copies of line art.

tarlen: The dragon remains 1/3 painted. I got interested in painting my trollblood army. I will get back to the dragon eventually.

  14. Tom N. Says:

I thought I was blind, since I couldn’t find a PayPal link anywhere on the main Schlock page.

Then I looked at the source code, and saw that there’s a form that should display a ‘tip the cartoonist’ gif (right between the nav links and the BlogAds sections), but it’s not displaying in either Safari or Firefox on Mac OS X 10.4.9. Is anyone else having this problem?

    Help! I have a 3 year old who’s been promised a coloring book! :-)

  15. Howard Tayler Says:

Email me, Tom. I’ll take care of you.

  16. alex Says:

First time caller, this made me need a new keyboard, considering what I just spit out onto the old one whilst reading. I’d donate if you could find a way to send it to our troops, Lord knows, they need a laugh. Keep up the great work!

  17. Howard Tayler Says:

    Alex,

If you want to help me donate to the troops, email me. I can send boxes of books to APO addresses, and I’m willing to offer a deep discount.

    –Howard

  18. h3rne Says:

I bought one for my nephews (I laughed until I cried).

I hope there’s enough slack in the donation to buy you guys a drink.

    Cheers

    Simon*

  19. alex Says:

Mr. Taylor, I’ll look up which to send to, a few members of my Guild just got shipped off, I’ll check in with them accordingly, But hells man, I’m up for simply donating through Paypal to ship em a laugh. Just a note, I really DID spit my coffee all over my keyboard this morning, all your fault. Now I gotta use the darn laptop.

    Keep up the good work!

  20. Surefoot Says:

My own space mercenaries will be delighted at this. Fits perfectly their style, and their IQ.

  21. MrWhipple Says:

Ahh I got to contribute near the anniversary. And as was mentioned by Corana ‘ “The children of today are the Dsicerning consumers of millitary-grade weapons technology of tomorrow”

After all its the facts of life…. ‘

would be even better on a shirt with schlock and the plasma cannon than just “omminous hummmmmm….”

    HINT HINT………………….

  22. DaGrinch Says:

I’ll donate just as thanks for finally putting the BLC navigation tool back in the corner of the page. I’ve missed that something fierce! Although it was making sure I kept up to date on Starslip Crisis =P

  23. McNutcase Says:

Now all I need to do is find some 8.5″ x 11″ paper… or hope I can scale it sanely for our crazy, logical Euro-sized paper (having consistent proportions, and being able to make smaller sizes of paper by cutting larger sizes in half repeatedly? Insanity, I tell you…)

Still, sedition + Schlock + plasma = gooooood.

  24. Bookworm Says:

It’s “The children of today are the discerning consumers of military-grade weapons technology of tomorrow”

(Note, it’s not Dsicerning, it’s discerning)

For a T-Shirt, I’d try to shorten it. Maybe

“Children Today, Consumers of Military Weapons Technology Tomorrow”

  25. DarthParadox Says:

Fascinating! I did not know that’s where “Copic” came from. But now I do! And knowing is half the battle.

The other half, obviously, is blowing stuff up. And now I get to color it!

  26. juenger1701 Says:

damn you Howard now i want the Hexola set makes the 150 Crayola set look piddly

    juenger1701

  27. Howard Tayler Says:

Colors like #999966 can be found in the 4096 color set, where all the pairs have matching digits. It’s so much more affordable than the full 16 million + set.

  28. jecook Says:

Getting one as soon as my paycheck gets tossed into the checking account. (i.e., in about 9-10 hours)

  29. juenger1701 Says:

i always wanted the BIG box so i want all 16,777,216 colors trick is where to store them and shipping has to be a beast

    juenger1701

  30. mamaslyth Says:

Low on funds at the moment, so I just emptied what was in my paypal account. It’s not like I was going to get interest off it or anything.

  31. Sam Says:

You don’t even need the 4096 colour set for #999966; it’s in the 216-colour “web safe” set.
