Teraport Wars Release Party with Brandon Sanderson and Writing Excuses

Posted October 7th, 2008 by Howard Tayler

Brandon Sanderson, author of the popular Mistborn fantasy trilogy, and the man tapped to finish Robert Jordan’s epic Wheel of Time, is going to be joining me this Friday, October 10th, at Dragon’s Keep, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm.

Brandon wrote the introduction to Schlock Mercenary: The Teraport Wars, and will be on hand to sign your copy of that book, as well as any other books that have his name in them. He will have copies of the Mistborn books with him for sale, too.

As an additional treat, from about 5:30 to 6:30 Brandon and I will be joined by our Writing Excuses co-host Dan Wells and our producer Jordan Sanderson. We’ll record a couple of episodes of our inexplicably popular podcast for writers right there at Dragon’s Keep. Oh, the ambience!

But don’t just come for the witty banter with famous people. Don’t depend on our written and spoken words to entertain you. Don’t only be there to pick up Schlock Mercenary books, t-shirts, magnets, pins, and prints. Come for the free food, and throw down in a game! I don’t know what exactly the menu will be, but I’m betting there will be pizza, sodas, and veggie trays among the comestibles be consumed.

Dragon’s Keep is at 260 North University Avenue in the bustling heart of downtown Provo, Utah. We hope to see you there on Friday!

    Yea! Live podcast!

  2. swj719 Says:

Will there be a call-in number for those who WANT to be there, but can’t? :)

Dragon’s Keep is an awesome place folks. friendly patrons, great staff, and there will be Howard and Sandra, which means it would be cool even if it wasn’t…

But it is cool, so it’ll freak you OUT, man…

  3. AlexS Says:

I wish I lived closer, I really really do. :(

  4. Darwin Says:

It is exactly 666 miles according to Google from my house to the Dragon’s Keep. I’m tempted.

10 hours could probably be cut down to 8-9 since I’m on a motorcycle. This could be done.

The only problem is that I’d be limited on how much I could bring back to Southern California with me.

  5. Howard Tayler Says:

Hmmm… I’m pretty sure we could have stuff shipped. Sandra knows how to do that. :-)

  6. WEKM Says:

Darwin- If nothing else, I would be happy to hold the stuff for you. :D

Are we allowed to heckle the podcast, or will that get one tossed out by Guido?

  7. Darwin Says:

I think I’ll have to do this. I’m in sore need of an adventure and since my time machine is in the shop, and my space helicopter was stolen, this would be the next logical step.

I’ve been reading the comic for years, I’m a huge WoT fan, and I recently read the Mistborn books (without realizing who the author was, which left me pleasantly surprised by how awesome they are) this is like Nerd Valhalla.

Gah! i wish i still lived on the West coast so that i could foolishly try to make it to the keep. Alas i shall covet from afar. Does the dragons keep have a web cast or some kind of way the ever faithful schlockers who are far far away could join in?

  9. Howard Tayler Says:

We’ve thought about a webcast. The problem is that the Keep’s internet connectivity is about one broken ladder-rung above dialup. We can’t consistently watch YouTube videos over that connection, so I have exactly zero confidence in our ability to upload a video stream over it.

I’ve got a new video camera so we’ll definitely get at least a few minutes of video for posterity’s sake. Maybe I’ll even edit it and upload it.

  10. swj719 Says:

Can I get a promise of pictures (or better yet video) of the Zombie Sock Doll being placed in close proximity to Sandra? :)

  11. Darwin Says:

Alright. I’ll be there. A friend of mine wants to tag along so he’ll be driving. This means I won’t have to ride all the way there, but this also means I don’t get to ride all the way there.

See you all there! Time to pack.

  12. WEKM Says:

I’ll still hold your stuff for you.

Maybe if we all ask really nicely, they will video the podcast as well and then throw that up too.

I had a blast at the shipping party today and look forward to the release party tomorrow. See ya all there.

  13. Darwin Says:

If there is an ATT hot spot close enough we could connect via my info for uploading :)

    *jumps in car*

  14. Darwin Says:

Whew. Just got home. It was a blast and I want to thank everyone involved. Definitely worth the trip.

    Be well.

  15. Howard Tayler Says:

Thanks for coming, Darwin! I’m glad you made the round-trip safely.

  16. Corgi Says:

Thank you, Howard, Sandra, and unknown fan-sibling who packed Elf sketch #390 just for me. It got here …um, yesterday? despite my letter carrier and my dogs (it was in a rainable spot where the dogs could eat it) in near-perfect condition (despite everything, it still got a ding. Go figure.) but I am neither complaining nor requesting replacement. Just wanted to let you know. :)

    Corgi

P.S. Watching Darwin’s trip has been fun, too.

  17. Merodym Says:

    Awesome, got mine yesterday!

  18. thefile Says:

Got both of mine (plus the magnets) yesterday!
