Back To Work

Posted January 6th, 2009 by Howard Tayler

In my Row, Row, Row Some Rows post I described the manner in which I track my work. Over the holidays I got about half as much work done as usual, which is another way of saying I actually got some vacationing in.

Well, the holidays are over, and I need to put Schlock Mercenary: Out From Under to bed this month. One hundred rows per week is the goal, and I’m already behind by five, with a mere fifteen rows representing my output yesterday. So… back to work.

You’re not behind schedule Howard. You’re ahead of a more relaxed, slow paced, and decidedly unproductive schedule.

And you shouldn’t put your back to work. I may not know much about this sort of thing, but I’m pretty sure you have to face your work to do it effectively. Maybe that’s why you’re behind?

As for me, you’ll note I am not behind schedule, managing to squeeze this rather mundane comment in just before the rest of my peers. I put the effort in.

At least you have a job doing what you love. You make us laugh and humor is a medicine we all need right now.

I’m inclined to start singing “Put Your Stylus To The Screen, There’s A Deadline,” but that might be going a step too far, wouldn’t you agree?

  4. Howard Tayler Says:

Wow! Bonus points for quoting my own comic at me in a relevant and amusing way!

Good luck… I may actually have the money to buy this one.

  6. Trismegustis Says:

Thank you, Mr. Tayler! I aim to please.

Incidentally, we met at San Diego Comic-Con two years back… You gave me a sketch of Ennesby, and I wanted to thank you again for it. Still looks fantastic up on the mantelpiece, smiling down at me about some pun or another.

As AmbassadorOna said, you spread glee and laughter, and you’ve been doing it EVERY DAY since 2000. I daresay none of /us/ are going to be offended if you’re a little behind in your schedule!

  7. Entrench Says:

What they all said. You could actually just stop doing anything for a whole month and still have better release times than most video game consoles and publishers.

But really, our opinions are kind of moot. If you REALLY want to know whether this whole “relatively flexible work schedule” thing’s working out, ask Sandra or your kids. We’re always gonna buy books, be it in a week, or three months, but a week or three months is long in family-time. We understand Howard. Remember, we are just as crazy, if not CRAZIER than you.

Now if you’ll excuse me, i have to go sanitize my magnets…my nephew likes schlock, and likes sticking things in his mouth. The combination was both amusing and sticky.

I am embarrassed and ashamed to admit that for once I have actually no control over what I type next..

    ROFLMAO.

    Best.
    Schlock.
EVER! If you truly feel less productive, my only comment would be that today is the funniest strip ever. Lusty, even ;)

Ok, Long time reader first time poster.

I just had to chime in and comment both on your work and todays comic.

First, I truly enjoy the comic, today’s strip had me laughing out load so much that the wife was asking me what was so funny. Truly a great comment by Kevin at the end, and having Lota commenting in the background to the crowd made it so much richer. Keep up the good work!

Second, I have never been disappointed by the quality or quantity of your work on this comic. You have a family and you need to find the life balance that works for you. To you I say CONGRATULATIONS at finding something you can support your family with, allows you to spend time with them, and that you enjoy doing. I dare say that if we could all have as great a job as you have created, the world would be a lot less stressful. Keep up the great work you are doing and I look forward to viewing more great stories from you in years to come.

Some of the best military quotes of all time go to Chesty Puller.

“We’re surrounded. That simplifies the problem.”
    (my all time favorite)

“They are in front of us, behind us, and we are flanked on both sides by an enemy that outnumbers us 29:1. They can’t get away from us now!”

“Take me to the Brig. I want to see the “real Marines”. ”

“Our Country won’t go on forever, if we stay soft as we are now. There won’t be any AMERICA because some foreign soldiery will invade us and take our women and breed a hardier race!”

“Don’t forget that you’re First Marines! Not all the Communists in hell can overrun you!”

So is it to late for pre-orders?
