My friends Drew and Janci, Garden Ninja Studios‘ Chief Artisan and Chief of Operations respectively, are impressed with your enthusiasm for these miniatures. In Janci’s words “The last couple of days have been pretty surreal.”

First: for those of you who have placed orders for painted Schlock miniatures, please note that each of these is hand-painted, and they’re not done yet. Drew wasn’t expecting to have to paint the entire inventory in one go, so it may be a couple of weeks before some of these orders ship.

Second: As of this writing there are only 36 Schlock miniatures left. Garden Ninja Studios is already planning a re-order from the caster. Since there is now a pre-existing mold the turnaround time should be fairly quick, but that’s not the same as guaranteeing that the next batch will arrive in time for painting and holiday shipping. Still, demand being what it is, Drew and Janci will do everything they can to make you guys happy.

Third: If you’ve got friends who play tabletop wargames, please consider Garden Ninja Studios for that one-of-a-kind, remembered-for-years-to-come Christmas gift. Drew’s “Movie Marines” are perfect for that Warhammer 40K player who “has everything” and is difficult to shop for. I’ve seen some of Drew’s conversions and kit-bashes, and they are gorgeous.

Fourth: Interest in the Schlock minis has been strong enough that we’re willing to consider doing another character early next year. I’m leaning towards an action-pose Tagon in the new uniform. What say ye?

Okay, I’ll be selfish and say that Tagon doesn’t have quite the miniature wargaming potential as a vignette of Elf, Kevyn and Ennesby.

  2. Zookster Says:

    35 left now.

Much as I love Tagon, I will join in voting for Kevyn or Elf (grrrrrr).

Thought about this a bit yesterday, but saw your mention of them again today and decided to go for it. I don’t do any tabletop gaming, so he’ll just have to serve as a decoration. (But hey, hard to argue with a decoration that has a plasma cannon.)

On a related note… any chance you’ll ever reprint the “Meet interesting lifeforms, and kill them” T-shirt? (I think it had a cast shot on the front.) I didn’t buy it the first time around, but would snap one up in a heartbeat if they became available again.

I would love a Tagon mini! Others too, but after Schlock he’s my favorite so I definitely think turning him into lead next is a brilliant idea! :)

  5. Howard Tayler Says:

@minion: The pewter we’re using is lead-free. This way you’re less likely to melt down the minis for bullets.

  6. Fenix Says:

As he is my favorite character, if a Tagon mini were produced, I would buy one. Swiftly.

  7. Austin Shackles Says:

Nice result with the mini-schlocks. I predict a series of all the main chatracters… followed by a RPG based around ‘em. Round about 2011 for the RPG, I reckon, give people time to collect the characters.

I’m not much into that kind of thing myself, so no real preference for the next character in the series.

  8. WickedWolfie Says:

    Forget Tagon…

Elf with her giant pre-decorpitation metal boots!

  9. WEKM Says:

Tagon next? Now your just teasing me.
Next you’ll say that the whole main crew will be available by next Christmas. Ah, but we can dream.
I just am not sure which version of Elf I would prefer. All are great. However I can see the Gauntlet joke getting old at any table game.

  10. WEKM Says:

Oooo, and grunts in Kevin and Elf’s armor design.
Mmmmmmm, makes me all warm and tingly just thinking about all that pewter mayhem.
I may be reaching a bit this early, but we all need to have dreams. And I know that this would be the type of dream that would finally drag me into table gaming.

  11. Sam Says:

    Um… Gauntlet joke?

  12. Howard Tayler Says:

@Sam: From the Gauntlet video game: “Elf needs food badly…” and “Elf is about to die.” I used that joke during Schlocktoberfest 2001.

  13. RichK Says:

I’d like a new suited Tagon. Maybe then you can go down the chain of command.

How will you deal with Ennsby? Have someone hold him like a maraca?

  14. bpickering Says:

OK, I obviously need to do something about how busy I am, since it looks like not only has a new Schlock Mercenary product come out, but the darned thing SOLD OUT before I even got to LOOK AT IT!

    >>>>>WHINE!!!!!<<<<<

Looking forward to it being re-cast (so to speak).

And I can see either Tagon or Elf as being equally valid as next characters.

  15. Howard Tayler Says:

There are another 40 miniatures coming from the caster, and then another 400 on order.
