September 29, 2001

Tomorrow morning I hop on an international flight to Africa. It's a business trip, and I'm looking forward to it. I'll be gone for 10 days, though, and my internet access may be spotty, so this page may go without updates clear into October.

Fear not... the comic is all colored and uploaded well in advance, and I'm sticking lots of cool stuff in this edition of the entry to try and keep you occupied for a bit.

First of all, Dawnfire Games asked me if they could use the concept of Schlock, the amorphous alien, in their RPG. I agreed, and drew them some Swords-and-Schlockery artwork which you can ONLY get by going to the amorph description page.

Next up, from the "it's about time" department, I'd like to call your attention to the brand new Schlock Mercenary Gallery of Fan Art. I feel guilty for not doing this sooner, but I also feel an enormous sense of relief. Some of this stuff is just too good to not have seen the light of day until now.

Third in line (but always first in my heart? no... that sounds too tacky), the folks who brought you the Schlock Mercenary IRC channel now have a nice rant zone and discussion board area set up. Go visit Nightstar.net and patronize the kind souls who've provided me with countless hours of lively Internet Relay Chats. I can't say enough about how nice it's been to sit out at #schlock_mercenary (irc.nightstar.net, ports 6665-6669) and talk to folks with common interests. The last few weeks on the channel have been a good, healing experience for all of us, and I can't thank my buddy Ogredude enough for providing the forum for that.

Finally, as we head from September into October, I'd like to welcome you all to Schlocktoberfest 2001. The story that begins on October 1st is a little darker than what we're usually accustomed to, but it's dark comedy, which is kind of like dark chocolate, except that you don't have to go to France to see it done right. And you have no idea how happy that makes me. I'm looking forward to going to Africa-- nobody down there has tried to ream me out with a camera*.
