Mark Your Calendars!
Posted April 13th, 2006 by Howard TaylerMark your calendars, everybody.
The Official Launch Party for Schlock Mercenary: Under New Management will be held at Dragon’s Keep on May 20th, 2006. Come early, stay late. I’ll be there from 11:00am through whenever we close. Festivities will probably be at their most fevered pitch between 4:00pm and 8:00pm.
There will be food. There will be Schlock books. There will be signings and doodlings and free sketches. There will be Frag. There will probably be games of Magic, Heroclix, Warhammer, Munchkin, Clout, Racer Knights, Pirates, and whatever else the folks at the Keep want to break out. Show up for the book, then stick around and play with us. The best part… you don’t need to buy anything to play with us. And that’s the way it ALWAYS is at the Keep.
Be warned, though: Lance Corporal Lemming Bok-Bok (yours truly) may frag you, and then jump in the acid before anybody can shoot back. He’s that kind of a wuss-campy gamer, he is.
If you’ve ordered books and live in Utah Valley or Salt Lake Valley, the odds are very, VERY good that your mail-orders will arrive BEFORE the launch party. We’ll be shipping the books starting on Saturday the 13th, if the river don’t rise. If you’ve pre-ordered a book at the Keep (which is the only place on Planet Earth where you can place a pre-order without plunking down any money) it will be there waiting for you.
This is going to be fun, kids. Don’t miss it.

As soon as I can actually get in touch with anyone from InConjunction–you’re going to have to come to Indy for a convention. At the moment I’m rather travel impaired and I’m tired of missing out on all the fun.

Oh, to have a passport, a car, gas money, and a week off to drive.
April 13th, 2006 at 10:54 am
Time to get a plane ticket…
Howard, you’ve been there… How far is it from the nearest hotel?
April 13th, 2006 at 11:57 am
I’ll be there!

Scott,
It’s a short walk from there to the Provo Marriott — maybe 5 blocks, tops. There are motels in the area too, but that is by FAR your best bet for a comfy stay.
Provo is an hour south of SLC international airport. Flying into Provo isn’t an option unless you charter a plane. There are airport shuttles you can hire — it’s usually $30 for a trip down into Provo. The Marriott may even offer one, but I don’t know for sure.

I’ll check into the Marriott, even though the internet says the have no rooms (THEY LIE!!), but worse comes to worse staying at a smaller place and having to cad/hike isn’t too bad… Greyhound is

Ok, so I’m considering moving to Orem to get in on all the celebrity power…

There are celebrities in Orem? Man, I need to get out more.

Anyone with a big trunk driving down from Edmonton? Anybody? No takers for smuggling a Canadian across the border with only a (learner) driver’s license for ID?
April 14th, 2006 at 12:35 am
Well Ryan; while I am in Edmonton, my travel plans do not, at this time, include this party. but if they did I bet you could be crammed into the forward cargo hold of my VW as a sort of Meatshield.
hey look, other schlock fans in my town!

And heres why its depressing to be british :P
However, Howard, if you’ve got something on in a couple of years time like this, I’ll try to be there :)

Here’s why it’s (sort of) depressing to be in NJ.

So if I wanted to come and bring a deck and maybe play a round of Magic – would it be better to bring the toddler, or find a sitter for him?
April 14th, 2006 at 7:05 am
Children are always welcome at Dragon’s Keep, but it is the responsibility of the parents to keep track of the child and make sure no damage is done to merchandise. Howard and I love kids and won’t mind seeing them at the event. However, our kids will not be there because we want to concentrate on socializing, gaming, and meeting fans rather than on parenting.

Sandra and I will talk with the management at Dragon’s Keep and see whether a “toddler-movie room” can be set up. I’m pretty sure it can be made to work.

It’s on my calendar now.
Lucky me, Provo is within my easy driving distance.
April 14th, 2006 at 8:26 pm
w00t! I already do all my gaming at The Dragon’s Keep. I think I’ll show up and drag all my friends.
April 16th, 2006 at 2:44 pm
Wooh! The first time i’ve been in America when something like this is going down. It’s a bit of a haul from San Diego. But i’ll be there. No party is complete without an Australian :P
April 16th, 2006 at 5:15 pm
Wow. We’ll keep the lights on for you, Dan.

hswoolve,
There are a -lot- of reasons why it’s depressing over there in NJ…
This is just one ‘more.’ :)
Going to try to talk to folks at the cons here in Pgh. and see about
coercing them to drag you out East, Howard. Course, why I’d want to
curse you with coming to Pittsburgh is cause I’m not available to travel,
under typical circumstances.

Finding a sitter for my little boy is not a big problem – both sets of grandparents are in AF. The new one would be with me (in her sling) seeing as how she’ll just be 2 weeks old!
I’ll probably only be able to be around for an hour or so, most likely around 11, but it should be neat…
:-D
April 17th, 2006 at 2:14 pm
Let me just say I’m TOTALLY jealous that I can’t be there! And it’s the day before my birthday and everything.
April 17th, 2006 at 5:02 pm
Heh, if one of the Pittsburgh cons get you to show up Howard, I’ll be forced to go to one again. Been a LONG time (most cons in Pittsburgh seem to be outside the city limits and require a car to get to *grin*).

Are there any festivities planned for Saturday night? It would be great if we could meet the author or have dinner with the creators the night prior. I was thinking of suggesting it for Sunday night, but it seems that the main event will take up the entire day. May I suggest a Schlock-fan gathering in a nearby restaurant on May 19th, Friday night?
