A lovely dinner with Laurell K. Hamilton
Posted October 29th, 2007 by Howard Tayler
Laurell K. Hamilton is in town as part of a book tour, and her publisher has graciously padded her schedule with a little bit of down time. I drove to their hotel in Salt Lake last night, picked up Laurell, her husband Jonathan, and their security liason Charles, and we drove down to my place for dinner.
We had a great time. They’re all three very interesting people, and we all had plenty to talk about. If you live in the area, she’ll be doing a Q&A and signing in the Barnes & Noble at 1104 East 2100 South, Salt Lake City tonight at 7:00pm.
I got her to sign a copy of The Blackness Between for me last night (she wrote the introduction). Someday I’m going to have to pick up the Anita Blake comics and get those inscribed as well.

Sadly, no.

Now that is just cheating!
No fair getting her to sign your copy and not have her also sign a few dozen others to offer up as specials to your fans.
I’m sure you could pull down an extra $2 – $5 per issue if they were bearing both your and her signatures.

Have to say I used to really enjoy her stuff. Last couple were a bit much for me. I’d love to see her restart the fantasy series from so very long ago though.
Congrats on getting such a great visit though.

WEKM: She’s in Salt Lake City tonight, and she does many more book signings nationwide than I do. Just bring her a copy of TBB, and have her sign it. She’ll be delighted to, I’m sure.

Did anyone else just read their daily Sluggy and think ‘Zombie Gwynn’ at that cover?
You know, with a gun and all.

Sadly, I had to get up at 1:00 AM, therefore I had to go to bed at 5:30 PM.
Such is life.

Howard: I would bring her my copy, but since I don’t read her work I would feel vulnerable staning in like with my Schlock out there for everyone to see, and nothing of Laura’s near it.
That sounds a lot worse in print than it did in my head. :)
Though anyone who’s a friend to you and yours is someone I should consider reading, I suppose.

Heheh…no, I’ve far more tan than I’d prefer, and rather boring brown eyes. :)
Howard, you and yours were wonderful hosts & the dinner was the best food I’ve had lately (outside my wife’s spagetti…that rules). I had to actively and consciously resist finishing off that mint-chocolate pie. :D
