The Teraport Wars Shipping Event

We have scheduled space in Dragon’s Keep to host our two days of shipping. We will be shipping out books on October 9th and 10th. We do not yet have a schedule for a book release party, but we know that it will be at least one week removed because Dragon’s Keep is not available on the Saturday following the shipping.

If your address has changed since you ordered your book, now is a good time to email schlockmercenary at gmail.com and get the address corrected.

We welcome and depend upon volunteers to help us pack and ship over 1000 packages in two days. If you want to be a volunteer please read the following carefully:

October 9th: We’ll start at 9:30 AM and finish by 3:30 PM. We’ll take volunteers for any length of time that they have available. If you can only drop by for 10 minutes, that is fine. We’ll put you to work for 10 minutes. This is the heavy lifting day (sometimes literally.) The majority of the packages will be sent out on this day. We can accommodate up to a dozen volunteers, more if everyone is cooperative and friendly. (Which is usually the case.)
October 10th: We’ll start at 9:30 AM and will likely be done before noon. We only need a few volunteers on this day to help us pack up the odds and ends. I keep expecting the shipping to take two days, but the Thursday volunteers keep getting it all done and leaving very little for Friday people to do. If you’re dying to help, I recommend coming on Thursday.

Perks: All volunteers will have the chance to pick through a box of loose merchandise and take something home. We will also provide food throughout the day so that our minions helpers don’t faint from hunger. You will also get to hang out with other Schlockers and talk about cool stuff. And don’t forget that warm fuzzy feeling you get from helping out others.

If you wish to volunteer, feel free to drop an email to schlockmercenary at gmail.com and I’ll put you on the mailing list for schlock volunteers. Or you can just drop by Dragon’s Keep on October 9th or 10th and say “I’m here to help.”

If you’re located outside of Utah and still want to help, you can go to our store and order a book so that we have plenty of things to ship.

Hmm, if someone could hook me up with a teraporter and an annie plant to power it i would love to come help out but otherwise im stuck a third or so of the globe away and so it will be 99.99% probability i will not be able to help…

Got my preorder in however so that is one extra book you lot will have to package and ship though

Good luck and I’m looking forward to seeing part of your hard work show up at my house in a little while

  2. swj719 Says:

Turns out I’m not gonna be able to make this one, folks…

Someone take Howard to that all-you-can-eat sushi place for me…

No lie, you will have a blast. And man that’s freakishly good sushi…

  3. swj719 Says:

Also, get there early for the shipping party, or there won’t be anything to do. Seriously, they were like 95% done when I got there last time, and there was over an hour left…

  4. Bookworm Says:

Wish I could get up there to help out. It’s hectic down here in Houston.

[hums the _Looney Tunes_ Heavy-Equipment Theme]

    :)

  6. WEKM Says:

Depending on what run I will be out on that day, I would be glad to help out some more.
I will let my boss know that, if he sends me out on an overnight run on that Thursday, I will be very put out.

  7. swj719 Says:

    csadn,

More like “Yackety Sax” from Benny Hill… :)

  8. WEKM Says:

    Only with less cleavage.

  9. rvanrees Says:

Generic site comment: you apparently changed the top banner over to the regular “you won the lottery” (with 5 popups) and “one free year in the US” type of utter junk.

I just noticed them tonight when looking at today’s comic again. So probably some entity you use to manage your ads fouled up as I doubt you’re experimenting with different advertising streams now that you’re more than hip-deep in books :-)

    Reinout

  10. Sam Says:

Ow. The “You’ve got 1 FREE year!” bit of the “Live and Work in the USA” one flashes red and blue. At a rate that I strongly suspect is hazardous to epileptics.

  11. swj719 Says:

    “Only with less cleavage.”

    Well, yes…

It IS Utah, after all… :)

  12. Bookworm Says:

There is some experimentation going on with advertising – I won’t give any additional information than that, because I don’t have authority to.

  13. p and c Says:

“[hums the _Looney Tunes_ Heavy-Equipment Theme]” In one of those totally useless information cashes I know the song you speak of is PowerHouse. It was a very popular bigband piece.

  14. kelestra Says:

    “Only with less cleavage.”

It’s worth pointing out that ‘”less cleavage than the Benny Hill Show” isn’t a very difficult standard to achieve. ;-)

On a more serious note, I’m sadly also two-thirds of a continent away, curse the luck.

  15. csadn Says:

Actually, I went with the _Looney Tunes_ selection for three reasons:

    1) As noted, it’s slightly more “family-friendly”;

    2) Since this is going to involve a bucketload of Heavy Labor, it
    seemed more appropriate for the task, and;

    3) “Yakkety Sax” is overdone these days. :)

  16. swj719 Says:

Maybe a compromise and make it the Three Stooges theme?

  17. richv Says:

    Kelestra:

You need to listen to “Vickie Dougan” by the LimeLighters. Benny Hill showed quite a lot of cleavage on one show.

  18. csadn Says:

swj719: Nah — insulting to the folks doing the work. I don’t know
about you, but *I* want the people doing the heavy labor on my
parcel to be in Good Moods while they’re at it.

It’s the same principle as “never be snarky to anyone who handles
    your food”…. ;)

  19. WEKM Says:

The Three Stooges theme? But where will we get enough pies to pull that off?

And as far as cleavage goes, I forgot about the vast array of man boobs that will probably be there. However to be fair, I will have my shirt buttoned nearly to the top so as to minimize my own personal cleavage display.
    Oh, the horror…

  20. richv Says:

To (approximately) quote: “Many of you here may be unaware of Miss Vickie Dougan. … Miss Dougan recently appeared in, and was photographed wearing, a backless gown. A gown cut so low in back that it revealed a new cleavage.”

  21. Sam Says:

Ow. Bookworm, do you have authority to restrict the advertising to ads that don’t flash? Or do I need to put “servedby.advertising.com” in my /etc/hosts?

  22. Bookworm Says:

Sam – I’m afraid not. That’s a BLC decision. There’s going to be some ‘training’ period, that’s about the best I can say. With luck, there will be better flexibility with the ads soon – ask Howard directly about it, he has a lot more information. I’m just the techie grunt.

If it makes you feel better, I deliberately don’t turn off the ads. I have my noscript allowing them on the BLC sites.
