I won! I won!
entry,

Before I begin regaling you with tales of my actually being a winner, I'd like to say a bit about the picture that was supposed to tell a thousand words but instead generated a thousand questions:

  • First, that's not me. That's a canadian Schlocker.
  • Second, the weapon is neither for sale nor dangerous. It's a model of the M41-A Pulse Rifle used in the movie Aliens, and it's made entirely out of cut, folded, and painted paper.
  • Yes, paper. And made by hand, by the guy holding it.
  • There's a forum thread on the matter.

And now, on to the news. I won!

The voters in the 2003 Cartoonists' Choice Awards named Schlock Mercenary "Outstanding Sci-Fi Comic." They sent me this as proof:

You might ask "who were the voters?" to which I would answer "webcartoonists." It's a peer award, kind of like the Academy Awards, only without quite so much gold, prestige, or television coverage. Regardless, I'm extremely pleased and quite honored by this, and will proudly display it on the site for at least a couple of months.

If I'd won an Oscar, I couldn't display it because it would get stolen. Besides, I'm just cheap enough to melt it down and sell the gold myself... "I'd like to thank my family, God, the Academy, and my good friends at E-Z-Pawn."
