March 09, 2003

Today, March 9th, 2003, marks the debut of the 1001st Schlock Mercenary strip, and the official 're-launch' of the comic.

Had I not said anything, most of you would not have noticed.

The upshot of it all is that the story that begins today will also be the first story to appear in a Schlock Mercenary book. The story is being carefully crafted so that new readers can pick up right here, never page back, and know what's going on. Sure, sure, they'll miss out on the old stuff, but since the story can stand on its own, I'll stand a reasonable chance of landing a publisher.

Long-time readers should not notice the stand-alone-ishness of the Schlock Mercenary 1001 storyline, though. After all, I'm carefully crafting this to meet EVERYONE's reading needs (well, except people for whom words like "infomercial" and "annihilation" are outside the scope of their vocabulary), which is a challenge, but one that I'm definitely up to.

In unrelated news (much less related than my raisin news), Greystone Inn is hosting Keen Cribs, and the first 'crib' featured is mine. Link on in and see my office, my drawing table, my computer, and a caricature of me -- but hurry! Once the next crib is up, mine disappears behind the PREMIUM firewall forever! And your little dog too!

Get over there already. Don't make me reach for my flying monkeys...
