New Digs, New Tunes, No Buffer
entry,

Hey, did the subject of the entry get your attention? You know, the "no buffer" bit? I hope so. It got mine.

Basically, I'm living hand-to-mouth right now, with a mere 7 days inked. I planned to build that back up to 14 this week, and then up to 21 this weekend, but I had another project in place, and it pretty much kicked my teeth in.

You see, I got a new PC. The machine itself is pretty sweet, with an AMD Athlon processor running about .16 GHz short of 2 billion instructions per second. It's got half a gig of Ram, and it supports my dual-monitor approach to living. A big "thanks!" goes out to Fritzy from the Schlock forums for hooking me up with this nifty sled for a great price.

Yes, it's running Windows... I don't have the tools I need to cut over to Linux yet (and before you tell me that I DO, go ahead and shut up. I've checked. I don't.)

(Incidentally, you may have heard that Novell bought SuSE. I'm happy with this, but I'm not going to switch to Linux for religious or patriotic reasons. I'm a pragmatist, and I've got work to do.)

So... the new PC. I needed to migrate my data and settings from the old box to the new box. The "File and Setting Migration Wizard" is pretty cool, and I've used it before, but I couldn't get it to work. I was ready to post an entry begging for tech support from someone out there smarter than me. Then I caved in, reached back into the dark recesses of my mental toolbox, and began following proper troubleshooting procedure.

It turns out that Zone Alarm Pro and peer-to-peer workgroup networks get along badly. With that out of the way, the migration was a breeze. Unfortunately the breeze was blowing at 3am Saturday morning, which pretty much shot Saturday as a cartooning day.

To make up for it, I installed iTunes. I'm listening to a 128kbs stream of Internet Radio right now... some techno channel called, appropriately enough, "Technomusique." Very nice. And considering I had to purge my MP3 collection in order to free up enough space to migrate my data, it'll have to serve me well for a while. I'm going to have to re-rip my entire music collection, and this is NOT the weekend for it.
