Nine Years
Posted June 11th, 2009 by Howard TaylerWith the airing of the June 12th, 2009 installment of Schlock Mercenary I celebrate three things:
1) Nine full years of Schlock online.
2) The beginning of the tenth year of Schlock online.
3) The recycling of a nine-year-old punchline. Under the current conditions, that’s the very oldest of my punchlines I can re-use.
It’s been a great nine years. Here’s to nine more, only I want them to be even better.

No ominous hum!?
June 11th, 2009 at 9:03 pm
But tomorrow, through the miracle of modern nonlinear storytelling, you can have a flashback that is even older! Yes, you too, for the small price of your soul, can enjoy recycling punchlines that belong before the beginning, symbolism rooted in prequels that haven’t been written yet, and other literary one-three punches.
Congratulations, Howard! Nine years and still humming!

Happy 9th birthday, Sergeant!
Go get those clowns.

I hope that doesn’t mean that Schlock Mercenary will end in only nine years. :-(
June 11th, 2009 at 9:45 pm
That means that in about 2 weeks, I’ll have been reading Schlock Mercenary for 9 years. Wow. It’s amazing how time flies when you’re having fun and you’ve got a plascannon…

Congratulations! May your webcomic become at least as old as I have this very same day. So don’t worry, richv, with that blessing we have at least 22 more years to go. ^^

Congratulations Howard! Here’s to nine more years (and then some)!
June 12th, 2009 at 6:14 am
Congratulations! May your webcomic continue for at least as many years as I did as of today. So, no worries richv, we have at least 22 more years to go. ^^
Happy birthday to both of us!

Congratulations! May Schlock Mercenary celebrate at least as many birthdays as I did as of today. So, don’t worry about an untimely end, richv; with this blessing, we have at least 22 more years to go.
Happy birthday to both of us. ^^

…now all I need is to see an attorney drone get incinerated by a plasma cannon.
You rock, Howard. Woot!
June 12th, 2009 at 6:25 am
Count me in the group hoping for much more than 9 years. Also, how awesome is it to share a birthday with Schlock!
June 12th, 2009 at 6:46 am
9 years? Wow, I’ve only been reading for about two of them (although I’m completely up to date on the storyline, I spent several days catching up on the comic). I hope you stick around for another 9 years too!
June 12th, 2009 at 6:53 am
Congratulations from me, too!
And many thanks for letting us enjoy the schlockoverse for free every day!
(time to set aside some money again for a Schlock book)

Howard, I hope you draws comics for a thousand years, and I read them a thousand less one day, for I would hate to live and hear that Schlock had gone away…

My apologies for the triple post up there; I registered just this day for the occasion and still have to get familiar with the mechanics of commenting. Hope it wasn’t too tiresome.
But I agree with DarthReed; I sure hope that my birthday will be a shared one for as long as possible. :-)

Wow! Nine Years! Keep up the good work! I’ve been only following this for about 9 months. The gags are great. I love the throw back today.

I would offer you a Danish as reward, but I have problems getting the teraport working at this end, so here are congrats IN Danish instead:
Tillykke med de 9 år, Howard, og mange tak for utallige timers underholdning.
June 12th, 2009 at 1:26 pm
Ja, ja–tusind tak, Howard!
I hope that you a) continue to have fun creating Schlock and b) continue to make money creating Schlock, ’cause if you do, we get to keep enjoying Schlock.

Congratulations. ^^
Is rather fitting that ‘The Teraport Wars’ and ‘TSOIA’ arrived today, yes? :D Thank you. So much. I’m a relatively late starter of Schlock Mercenary, but it’s brought me so much joy and tears. Thank you, Howard and family.

An absolutely awesome accomplishment!
Congrats!

Thank you for recycled punchlines, and for making me laugh every day the last 2 years. Here’s to as many more years as you want. I’ll read ‘em all.
June 12th, 2009 at 10:22 pm
congratulations!

Woo Hoo, just picked up my box set from the post office today. Schlocky Goodness will be the order of the day for the next week or so.

Happy Birthday Schlock Mercenary!
I would have popped off sooner, but I have been sick.
Don’t worry, I won’t get any on you. Truth be told, I probably started coming down with it at the shipping party.
If your family health crashes, you can feel free to blame me.
However, I will not be covering any medical expenses. Just bask in the knowledge that I have spent this week wanting to die, yet having to work anyway. Really, is there any better justice?

Bravo, Howard. See you in a year for your 10th!
Thanks for the package that turned up on my doorstep today as well. Should have ordered two, the kiddo snatched it from my hands and shut himself in his room.

WEKM: You wouldn’t have to work if you really wanted to die.
Howard: Well done. You’re now less than a year from filling the mauve volume seen here. Of course, you’ll have to keep going beyond that to justify it being called “The First 10 Years”. I think to justify the size of the first volume, the series needs either to run at least 19 years, or have a sharp change at the 10-year mark. I think I know which we’d all prefer.
Ooh, will a book begin or end on the 12th of June next year? That’d make that volume really neat, wouldn’t it?

Greetings from Germany and Congratulations! :)

Congrats Howard, that’s fantastic!

Here are my belated congratulations as well!
