Book 16: Big, Dumb Objects — Part IV

Transcript

NARRATOR: Aboard the Juab, a class T7 U.N.S. destroyer

U.N.S. sailor: Captain Sato, there is an impactor inbound along the ecliptic. Velocity is point-four-one cee.

We do not have units in engagement range.

SATO: How did we miss it?

U.N.S. sailor: It is inert, and probably coated with nanny-black.

Active sensors can't paint it, and the mass ripple only now arrived.

SATO: Are you sure it is going to hit Uli-Oa?

U.N.S. sailor: I do all the math before using words like "impactor."

SATO: "Yes, Captain" is the correct answer.
