Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows

Sandra and I don't get out to see movies together very often. Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows was one of the films I promised her we could see together, and we did. This always makes a movie more enjoyable for me, perhaps artificially inflating it's ranking on my list.

Still, great movie. Loved it. #6 for the year.

I don't recall a lot of the Holmes vs. Moriarty stuff from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's books, but I do remember being terrified that somebody out there was smarter than Holmes, and was using his powers for evil. This film captured a lot of that for me. Moriarty was very, very disturbing.

The see-it-in-advance fight scenes were better in this film. We get three major ones, as I recall, and each of them was handled differently, providing some fun surprises. And of course there was plenty of don't-see-it-in-advance action, and excellent cinematography.

Sandra and I had a great time, and enthusiastically discussed the film afterwards -- that's always a good sign. This is one I'm sure I'll see again on DVD.
