Book 16: Big, Dumb Objects — Part IV

Transcript

NARRATOR: Boat Six, en route to accepting a surrender...

CDRE TAGON: I really want to punish the little mech-fairies, but the ones who deserve it got away.

KEVYN: There ought to be some reparations, Commodore.

CDRE TAGON: Gasca thinks he knows how the World Forge worked, so we kind of already got what we came here for.

The Esspees can't undo the harm they did, and they don't have anything we need.

MURTAUGH: What we need is a way to use the information, but Gasca says the resources required to build a world forge simply don't exist.

Not anymore.

KEVYN: Why bother with this meeting, then?

KATHRYN: Because the Esspees will die unless they evacuate, and we're still their best bet for a ride.

KEVYN: We could charge whatever we want. You could get your money back, Murtaugh.

MURTAUGH: The penalty clause on my contract with them doesn't work like that.

KEVYN: That sounds like a terrible contract.

MURTAUGH: Oh, it's a pretty tight contract.

If I've read it correctly, I now own their city.
