Book 8: The Sharp End of the Stick — Part VI: ...And Into The Fire

Transcript

Narrator: Meanwhile, hidden someplace safe. . .
Kevyn: How are we doing? I'm kind of in a hurry here.
Nannie Avatar: It's going to be several hours at least before you can move again.
Kevyn: Hours? Before I can move? Listen, I need to be combat-ready ASAP!
Nannie Avatar: I'm sorry. We used very nearly everything not immediately essential as "reaction mass" to fuel that rampage of yours. The lung-chutney is all gone now, and we have to start from scratch.
Nannie Avatar: The good news is the exobots have located some good sources of raw materials here in your bolt-hole. . . Starting with that pistol you acquired.
Kevyn: Don't break up that pistol! I need a weapon! I gave you permission to unlock all those soldier boosts because I need to be able to fight!
Nannie Avatar: Don't worry. You'll still be able to use your pistol. Much of the structure of that weapon existed only to afford you the ability to hold it in your hand. Since that function is now redundant, we are using those materials elsewhere.
Kevyn: Redundant? How exactly am I going to be holding the pistol?
Annie Avatar: I tell you what. . . I won't worry you with that detail, if you'll promise not to worry me with the details of where we're hiding.
Kevyn: I didn't realize ignorance was a currency.
Narrator: Okay, maybe not completely safe.
