Book 8: The Sharp End of the Stick — Part VI: ...And Into The Fire

Transcript

Commodore Shufgar: The last time I had a human in here I ended up shooting him in the chest. Shortly thereafter, something unexpected happened.
Commodore Shufgar: Now I have more humans here. Like any good sophont, I seek understanding, and in this context that means experimentation.

Since you are their commanding officer, I shall let you decide who I shoot first.

Elf: Tell me what happened to Kevyn, and maybe you can get understanding without shooting anyone.
Commodore Shufgar: You would negotiate?
Elf: I'm not going to choose your victim for you.
Commodore Shufgar: You are a poor excuse for an officer.
Commodore Shufgar: I will be doing your misled troops a favor by shooting you first. . .
SFX: B L A M
Commodore Shufgar: No favors today. We are starting with the one who blew up my ship.
Commodore Shufgar: Now. . . Let's all watch him for a few minutes and see what happens.
Elf: You furry, murderous sadist!

Commodore Shufgar: That will be. . . Disappointing.
Elf: Besides. . . Kevyn is the one who blew up your stupid ship.
Commodore Shufgar: Oh, that is disappointing.
