Book 19: A Function of Firepower — Part I

Transcript

NARRATOR: Half a galaxy away, aboard the carbon-class U.N.S. battleplate Shoemaker-Levy...

(unknown): Admiral Devereaux, Captain Murtaugh is here to speak with you.

DEVEREAUX: Thank you, Lieutenant. Please show her in.

DEVEREAUX: Hellow, Captain Murtaugh.

MURTAUGH: Admiral, I assume you're aware of the saying “It's easier to obtain forgiveness than permission.”

DEVEREAUX: It has been used to justify some expensive mistakes. I'm painfully aware of it.

MURTAUGH: “Expensive” is a good word. We did not give you permission to haul us into your hold, nor to “repair” our ship. It's unconscionable and unjustified.

MURTAUGH: Forgiveness will not come cheaply.

DEVEREAUX: Thank you for calling this to my attention, Captain Murtaugh.

DEVEREAUX: Should I someday find myself pining to atone before you and your tiny company of mercenaries, I will budget accordingly.
