Book 19: A Function of Firepower — Part I

Transcript

NARRATOR: Present day (3101 C.E. as the humans count it)...

NARRATOR: The dragon-class cruiser Cynthetic Certainty departs its most recent theater of operations.

SCHLOCK: Hey, Lieutenant?  Jengisha has never been to Petey's place.

KATHRYN: The Plenipotent Dominion is the new hub of galactic civilization, Sergeant.  It has more than eight billion residents, from over two hundred thousand worlds.

KATHRYN: As such, it's not really fair to call it "Petey's place."

SCHLOCK: But it's still totally his place.

JENGISHA: So, what's it like?

KATHRYN: There's a ring of giant, floating cities going all the way around the planet.

JENGISHA: I grew up on Venus.  I've seen floating cities before.

SCHLOCK: Okay, but the bartender at Mellon's Barad-and-Grill makes these drinks INSIDE OTHER DRINKS.

JENGISHA: "Depth charges."  I've had those before, too.

KATHRYN: We're ready to 'port in.  The exterior view should speak for itself.

JENGISHA: Lieutenant?  Where are all the cities?

SCHLOCK: Where are we going to get drinks?
