Book 16: Big, Dumb Objects — Part IV

Transcript

NARRATOR: Isthmus Galactica...

human researcher: This says there are two more primary entries for the Uli-Oa foundry on this wall.

human researcher: The system map, with precise masses and vectors, is about seven hundred kilometers southwest of here, on the "up" face of the isthmus.

human researcher: The technical specs of the foundry are seven hundred kilometers southwest of here, on the "down" face.

SORLIE: That's the one we want. Can we get to it?

human researcher: In digging and dredging terms, it might as well be written on the underside of the crusty part of the Pacific plate at the depth of the Marianas trench.

human researcher: The metaphor isn't perfect because the isthmus is far harder to cut than mere bedrock, and we're not allowed to cut it because every square centimeter has micro-engravings we want to keep.

SORLIE: Can we get to it?

human researcher: Didn't I just say "No"?

SORLIE: I'm pretty sure you said I need to find a better "we."
