Book 19: A Function of Firepower — Part I

Transcript

NARRATOR: Meanwhile, aboard Shoemaker-Levy...

LEVI: Admiral Devereaux, I have completed my analysis of the mercenary warship Breath weapon.

DEVEREAUX: Give me some good news, Levi.

LEVI: The forensic shipwrights of battalion six are exceptional scientists.

LEVI: I have reviewed and confirmed their findings regarding the kill shot.

LEVI: The long gun blast that struck Breath Weapon's A.I. was extremely powerful, and yet the collateral damage to the other systems was perfectly minimized.

LEVI: Bulkhead hatches and bay doors were opened just prior to the strike, allowing the exiting beam an unobstructed path into the absorptive non-backstop of empty space.

LEVI: Chinook is a very good shot, but that level of perfection can only be achieved if the target cooperates.

LEVI: To wit, Breath Weapon's A.I., Iafa, sacrificed himself for the crew.

DEVEREAUX: Nice, but I want to know about Breath Weapon's long gun systems.

LEVI: You instructed me to give you GOOD news, Admiral.

DEVEREAUX: Levi, you know what I meant.

LEVI: I do now, yes.
