Book 12: Force Multiplication — Part III: Fight or Flight

NARRATOR: Aboard the Bussed 'Em U.V. ...

KATHRYN: I think you should ask me an actual question.  I'm bored, and you're not very threatening, even with that stupid mask.

MAX: Fine.  You were hired by mercenaries to work as a pilot.  I want to know the full extent of your relation to them.  Not just what's apparent.  Give me all of it, A to Z.

KATHRYN: Oh, you poor thing.

KATHRYN: "Relation."  "A parent."  "A to Z."  You're trying to use the "Aunt Amy Uncle Bob" code.

MAX: Uh-oh.

KATHRYN: I was never cleared for field work.  I know about those codes, but I don't know how to use them.

That blustery bit about toys and security, and then when you read my bio to me... were those part of the challenge/password set?

KATHRYN: No, wait... don't answer.  I don't want to know.

No matter who you're actually working for, your cover is already compromised enough.  Mask or no mask.

MAX: Hmph.

KATHRYN: Yeah.  "Hmph."

KATHRYN: I'll make this easy for you.  I accept bribes.  And since what I want most right now is to leave Haven Hive, you can get a huge discount by just letting me go.

KATHRYN: But I guess you still need a guarantee that I won't talk.

MAX: You poor thing.
